Wow, I have not posted on here in for.Ev.Errr. It's been officially long enough that I think zero people will read this. I don't even think I will read this, but whatever I don't care!

Ok so I saw this Tina Fey video posted earlier by a friend of mine, and I died so many times, that I might even go so far as to say the dated "I died bananas" while watching:

So this lead me to watching more youtube videos of course since it is like the most subtly addicting website ever created. It's like, "I'm just gonna watch this one little 2 minute thing." That leads to about three hours later, "Wait, one more! This video looks good!" You know it's true. Anyway, end tangent. The first video lead me to watching this:

This video really made me think back to all the funny SNL skits and people I've seen in the past, but not only that, how much I love little quirky characters on TV & in entertainment now. For so long it has been a man's world. Lately though, and slowly within the past 20 years or so, I think that female comedians have come into their light. Jon Cryer brings up Mindy Kaling in this video, who is a perfect example. For a while, I had heard her name but had no idea who she was. At the same time, I knew that there was this really funny Indian character on "The Office" that would be on from time to time. When I figured out that they were the same person AND that she wrote and directed many of the episodes, I was highly impressed. Watch this girl on the show. She is just random and uber funny. It's just that she's so funny but must be so smart at the same time and on her game that I can't even deal.

Point: People like Mindy Kaling along with Ellen Degeneres, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig, Sarah Silverman, and so many female comedians make me happy these days, happy that they can rule so hard in a man's world.

Esquire's Best Bars in America

Esquire recently published their list of Best Bars in America which I think is great. I like going out to bars once in a while, especially if it's a good bar. I mean, who doesn't? So thank you Esquire for letting me know what's up. This is particularly helpful to me since I recently moved to one of the cities on the list that has many of the top bars. This gives me some great ideas & a point of reference on what to do on random nights when I'm sitting around bored with friends. A couple places that I've been wanting to try have made the list like The Edison and Redwood. Those are now on my next to try list.

Oh heyyyyy Blogger. I remember you! Ok here's the deal: I've decided that my motivation for job searching is inversely proportional to my motivation for blogger. Yes. Remember when I wrote that little post about being so motivated & "Oooh I'm gonna update my blog"? Yeah well that was only HALF bs. No, I didn't update with all the items I listed, but I DID apply for like 2398562 jobs and redo my resume and cover letter like a bazillion more times than that. Well now that I've hit a wall there, I instantly have motivation to update this little site here. Ok in short form, the things I said I'd post on, here goes:

1. Crazy Changes in My Life & Getting Acquainted With LA(The short of it)

In October I moved from my lovely little home, everyone I know, my full time job & basically my entire life with Steve (the bf) from Kalamazoo, MI to Dallas, Tx. He's a traveling nurse & that's where he signed his contract, namely cuz my favorites, the Camillones (family friends) live there & I liked visiting there in the past. 3 month contract. I got a nice little part time job at Barnes & Noble which I ABSOLUTELY LOVED (who knew?) and met some wonderful people. All went well, but Dallas wasn't really for us.

SO Steve didn't resign his contract there, & we decided to try something new again, a perk of his job. We moved to the LA area in the very beginning of January (but not before a very hectic and fun-filled friend meet-up weekend for NYE in Vegas, but that's a whole other story).

Now: I'm just looking for a real job, full time, one that I can use my degree for around here. Trying my little heart out! I love the area. There is SO much going on here. Even though we know like 3 people around here, there is always so many things to do & I like that. I've been to art show openings, beaches, different cultural towns, celebrated Chinese New Year, been on some great hikes through the mountains etc, etc. I'm ready to stay here. Now that little issue of a job. I have college loans to pay off damnit!

2. My Wrap-Up of the Music I Loved in 2009. This is mainly just for me because I like to look back & remember good music. Plus, what I listen to generally coincides with the goings on in my life which is pretty fun.

Yeah, this would have been a whole lot better in maybe like December, when I had planned to write it, when all these bands were on my mind & committed to memory, and when this was actually relevant. Who's counting though? It's only February. These are the bands I listened to most (even if I did before this year), discovered (whether new or not)/LOVED in 2009 IN MY EYES ONLY. Here they are, my top bands of 2009, in no particular order:

Beginning of '09-ish
--Lily Allen (Always a fave, & with the new album much airplay & saw her live @ this time too. A fave all time artist.)
--Passion Pit (First heard in I think Feb, & am in a major love affair w/ still. Sleepyhead on Skins may have been what did it. SO wonderful.)
--Santigold (Discovered around now, She's badass. Also reminds me of DEMF and interesting nights to follow which could never be replaced.)
--The Pipttes (Pull Shapes = I love life.)
--Taylor Swift
--Mates of State (loved before, still loving, will love long after. A Fave Ever. PURE TALENT)
--Miley Cyrus (You heard me. The Climb, Party in the USA (I know you love it.) Hoedown Throwdown. Do not doubt this girl.)
--Yeah Yeah Yeahs
--Kid Cudi (Crookers Remix Day N Nite = a must)
--Yelle (My French love? Reminds me of Aurel.)
--The Ting Tings (Way fun, but not so much live though, sorry guys.)
--Kelly Clarkson (In the beginning of the year I was way into it. Elbow clap. Since then, welll... sometimes still way fun still right?)
--Mark Ronson (Fun until I get sick of it.)
--Katy Perry (Saw her live, loved her more, even though I thought I'd hate her live. She's a wonderful performer. Show me your vocal skills though lady.)
--Vampire Weekend (Actually got sick of them after this period & then came to love them again w/ their new album in the 2010.)
--Black Kids (NO, I will not teach ur boyfriend how to dance with you! They're fun. Not a fully lasting thing for me though.)
--Natalie Portman's Shaved Head (Opened for Lily Allen, were mighty good people, began my love affair then. Fun to hear still every now & again even moreso than some of the big names mentioned above them. They're way nice people too. I like that.)
--Frankie Valli (Every time I hear his voice, I will instantly be transported to my living room @ Mansard House with some of the best people I know.)

Middle of '09-ish
--The Veronicas (Ok here's my thing with them, listened to & enjoyed them before this. Heard & saw a video performance of "Take Me on the Floor" = Instantly transformed to MAJOR fan. Went to see their live show w/ some of my bff's & became even larger fan. I could go on, but I'll leave you with this: they are some of the best vocalists/songwriters around. Live shows = Unbelieveable along with their fab & super hot band.)
--Chaingang (Heard of them from a Twitter comment, checked them out, AMAZEBALLS BAND. Met 2 of them & were so gracious & cool. Must meet the other two. Their music is unique, inspiring, & energetc. I love them forever. Currently one of my fave bands. I await their album ever so patiently.)
--Carney (Ok their live show tears everyone else apart. They have the most raw talent in 1 band I've seen. Saw them a couple times & must see again. SEE THESE GUYS. LISTEN TO THEM. I vote their video for "Love Me Chase Me" as Video of the Year in my own awards. However, I also must say it's one of my faves ever. These are good people who are extremely talented. Listen to them, again. Pure, raw rock. Jazzy, blusey-ish. Talent. The bf loves them too.)
--The Art (Saw them open for a fave band & they blew me away. So much charisma. So fun, unique, hot. Contagious.)
--Paramore (I felt like one of the last fans to get their newest album, but when I did, repeat forever.)
--MUSE (Ok, Muse. One of my favorite bands in the past. One of my favorite bands now. One of my favorite bands in the future. This band is amazing & their latest album does not let down. I feel like one of the lucky ones to be able to have seen them live, even though it was 2007. ACL 2007, I will never forget cuz of these boys.)
--The Dead Weather (Hi, this is my summer rock out in the car music. Love them.)
--The Sleeping (Mike of the aforementioned Chaingang turned me on to them. They made me happy more times than I can count.)
--Adele

The End-ish 2009
--Demi Lovato (Totally didn't expect to LOVE her. She has one of my fave voices ever. At the moment, if I hear the beginning to any of her songs I think of my time in Dallas because she was pretty much on repeat the whole time I was there. Love this girl's album & hope to see her live someday.)
--Jay-Z (Blueprint 3 ROCKED my world. My #1 album to work out too. I really can't seem to get sick of it even though I should which says a lot.)
--Lady Gaga (Listened to her a ton before this point, but here is when I think I realized or came to terms with the fact that she is a genius.)
--Drake (OMG It's Jimmy Brooks! (I'm a dork, clearly.)I'm so proud of his sheer awesomeness.)
--The Big Pink (Ok from 1 performance on "It's On Alexa" with Alexa Chung, I was hooked on these guys. I feel like their music best describes my taste today. I even get to see them on March 9, just after my bday this year.)
--The Used (ALWAYS a staple in my car, on my Itunes, in my life no matter when I put them on. This is possibly my fave band ever.)
--Black Eyed Peas (Some great catchy songs. I want to see them live. Geniuses as well.)
--The Temper Trap (So lovely to listen to. I loved them a little before this time, but they helped me get through the traffic jam of my life @ the Hoover dam on NYE.)
--Anberlin (Stopped loving them & then Reloved them this year.)
--Arctic Monkeys (Honestly, I didn't think I'd like them much. Checked them out. Hello, I love them! They're great.)
--Owl City (That Fireflies guy, he will ALWAYS remind me of Texas & will always make me happy because of it. Thank you B&N.)
--I got really into listening to the Twilight audiobooks @ this point. There was a lot of driving?

P.S. I need a job so I can buy the new The Used album & also maybe some life staples or some stability.

How have I not posted on Carney's new video for Love Me, Chase Me yet? Misplay. Carney filmed their first video this past summer & it finally came out a couple weeks ago. It blows my mind. In a time where I kind of forgot about music videos (thank you MTV for never playing them you whores), Carney comes along with this piece of art.

So The Art is this band that I didn't really know too much about when I went to go see them live over the summer. I had heard like 3 of their songs beforehand. When they opened up for The Veronicas on July 12, I was blown away. They were just so for lack of a better word "cool". I loved their sound, and their presence was beyond. I should have bought their EP at the show when I had the chance. **kicks self** But I guess I'll have to just wait until the record they recorded over the summer comes out.

At about 3 minutes in Lady Gaga's even wearing the shoes I want, bitch! Jk, loooooove youuuu. Seriously though, the shoes are like sea monsters on your feet, and I've been wanting them. I didn't think anyone would actually have them outside fashion week though. She really is rad.

Eating Healthier: Do It

We all know that the US has an obesity problem. Yes people, we're fat. Now that statement does not apply to everyone, but a large portion of Americans are fat simply due to the way they eat. Overeating, eating the wrong things, and eating on the go are major contributors to the obesity problem we have going on in this country. Fast food is a huge contributor since it's now basically built into our culture unfortunately.

If people were to change certain things about their diets and become more educated about their health, I think many people would change some of their habits and ways they think about food. I know I've been trying to eat a lot healthier lately, cutting out a lot of meat and trying to cut out a lot of unnecessary fats and sugars and instead add in a lot more vegetables and fruits. Now, I wasn't big to begin with, but it's still important to be conscious of what I eat. Plus, I feel tons better when I eat healthier.

Today a friend of mine posted a link to the following video that I think is important for people to see and think about. It's a Nutrition By Natalie video called Top 10 Worst Foods.

Luckily I don't eat many of the foods she mentioned. I cut out most soda and fruit flavored drinks that are filled with sugar long ago. The ones I do eat are in very low moderation. Except I did eat some bacon for breakfast this morning. It didn't even taste good. Yay empty calories!

To improve my habits, I'd like to get on the coconut milk train soon. That sounds delightful. It's good that I like a lot of the foods they mention: lentils, berries, sunflower seeds, etc. I should start eating more spinach since it's such an easy and obvious addition to other foods that I eat.

Some of the videos are long winded, but they provide excellent information about eating and feeling better.

That's my personal favorite. Check Janeane Garofalo's face. Priceless. Plus, Steve Zahn is the best thing since, well sometime. I particularly like the end where the video pans to the outside of the convenience store, and you can still see them dancing through the window.

Passion Pit - Sleepyhead LIVE

Hello, here is Passion Pit's Sleepyhead. Passion Pit is pretty much superawesomesauce in my book. So much depth and talent in that band. I especially love this song (read: it's my favorite) for so many reasons including the fact that it's the first song that I heard by Passion Pit and for many others like the random times it reminds me of that need not be mentioned here.

Anyway, check Passion Pit performing Sleepyhead live in Juan's Basement. Pretty much I want to be in that basement with them watching & dancing around.

I should also mention that I have a huge thing for the drummer in this. It might be because I really want to play drums, and he's awesome. But hey, now you know.

Cassie Steele Sings?

Wait, hold the phone, Cassie Steele sings? I had no idea! She's actually really really good too! Cassie is best known for her role on Degrassi: The Next Generation as Manny Santos.

Those of you who know me, you know that Degrassi was my complete obsession for so so long. I loved that show and it still holds a strong place in my heart. Yes, I did watch that show regularly until I was like 23 or so. I admit it. I will still watch it sometimes if the older seasons are on. I only recently started shying away from it in the past few seasons because most of the stellar cast is now gone & replaced with randoms that I don't think can hold a candle to the originals, like Cassie. Anyway, if you don't know me well, fyi for you.

Back to my point. Cassie posted a video of her singing her song Summer Nights & it was the first time I've heard her sing. I was really just blown away by it. I would have never guessed she had such a great voice on her. She should have been singing WAY more on the show. She seemed so cool & at home just chillin out on the floor singing with her guitarist. Very stripped down & honest, just her.

I need to go buy some of her stuff if I can find it. Check this girl out. I swear. Summer Nights has literally been running in my head since I first heard the song Monday.

From there, I checked out the video to discover I Blame Coco. Yes, she is the daughter of Sting like Hayley said. That family must have some damn good genes. I loved the video and checked out more of her stuff. All very good. Her voice reminds me a little of the style Sting sings, how he pronounces his words or something, and a little of Fiona Apple. It's very souly (if that's a word, soulful maybe) and very fun. I'm pretty sure she'd rock out live. Check her style too. I approve. More:

The Veronicas New Video for 4Ever

The first song I heard by The Veronicas was '4Ever.' It's also the original song that got me into them a few years back in about 2006 0r 2007. It actually reminds me of a specific time in my life in 2007. In a way it got me through a rough time with a smile on my face. For that, and for the impressiveness of the song itself, I've always love the song.

Even though it was written years ago and was on their first album 'The Secret Life Of...' and not their latest Hook Me Up, it is their current single in the UK. Monday they released a new version of their video for '4Ever' which they just filmed this July. Enjoy the video. It's fun and will basically make you want to party with them. Great styling/hair/makeup in the video too.

The Lovely Bones - The Movie

I JUST found out that "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Siebold is being made into a movie. "The Lovely Bones" is one of my fave books so I am way stoked right now. The trailer was just realeased yesterday I believe. It's directed by Peter Jackson of "The Lord of the Rings" movies. I didn't like those (don't hate, I just didn't) so I think this is an interesting choice. I do know that he could do very well with it though. I'm also not sure how I feel about Mark Wahlberg playing the father. Really? Really? Susan Sarandon will be fab though.

Can the movie hold up to the book? Check it out.

I've really been digging The Veronicas lately, ever since I saw their Revenge Is Sweeter show in Grand Rapids, MI with Carney and TheArt, and well since before that too. I still need to do a post on that amazing show too. Got tons of great pictures and video. I just have to get the memory card adapter for my computer since I used Steve's camera. I should have that this weekend so post coming soon.

That's a whole other story though. This morning I was just going through my Twitters, and I saw that Jessicaveronica posted this:

It's probably one of the funniest things I've seen in a while, and it made my morning. Love starting the day with a laugh. Jess even says, "I LOL'ed myself stupid. <3 <3." I'd say that's a quite accurate reaction. Well done to The Shambles.

So I'm totally stoked that Passion Pit has put out a new video for their song "To Kingdom Come." I love those Passion Pit guys and have never seen any videos by them before. Their music makes me insta-good-mood-ed whenever I hear it. I wonder if they have a video for "Sleepyhead" (since that's my fave song by them still)? Or maybe for "Little Secrets"? I doubt the second one though since the album just came out recently. Maybe that's next. Time for me to go search Youtube.

Rothbury 2009

Last weekend was officially the 2nd annual Rothbury Festival held at the Double JJ Ranch. No, unfortunately I did not go. I had the offer, but instead I went to spend some sun, fun, family, and friend time on the beautiful Chippewa Lake for the 4th of July.

I would have loved Rothbury I know though. There just weren't any bands that I was jumping at the chance to see though. Girl Talk, Chromeo, STS9, Cold War Kids, MSTRKRFT, and Damian Marley among others would have been pretty cool to see for me though. I'm not a big jam band fan though so not too much else stuck out. And I've already seen Bob Dylan when I was at the Austin City Limits Festival, so that was already crossed off my list. I would have highly enjoyed the whole feel of the festival and the fun art though.

I got to see Lily Allen -OR- Everyone's A Tit

We all know by now that Lily Allen is one of my absolute faves. Her songs are cheeky, yet she sings them with so much sincerity that it is great. She also has those really sweet songs. She's just so relateable. Plus, I love how her accent comes through when she sings. You cannot pick up the accent with British singers.

Recently, the day finally came when I got to see Lily Allen live. Finally, after some previous failed attempts. She was as fun and just as great as I had imagined. She played a great mix of new songs and some of my fave songs from the first album. I even got FRONT ROW! Holy stoked! I was close enough to touch her, but I'm not creepy so obvs I didn't. I wish I had gotten some more video, but check one of the ones that I took.

Here's a mix of Lily Allen's "Who'd Have Known" (one of my new faves, it's presh.) and "LDN" (one of my old faves).

Oh! And I wish she had played "Nan, You're a Window Shopper", but that is just strictly wishful thinking since I figured she wouldn't.

The next few weeks is going to be hectic for me, hectic in a good way that is. It's going to be packed with shows and greatness. First up, Friday I go to Detroit to see Katy Perry in Detroit at Clutch Cargo's. The next night, on the way back, I get to FINALLY go see my friend Erica who now lives in Lansing for her birthday.

Example: 1st time a friend would NOT go with me to see her on a trip to Toronto that was planned in order to see her. WTF?! 2nd time the tour was cut short. It's about freaking time I get to see Lily. I'm loving the new album 'It's Not Me, It's You' so great timing.

Afterwards, the fun continues. I will be going to Dallas from April 18 - April 22 to see some very close family friends get married. I'll get to see the whole family. I can't wait, seriously. I need a vacation too so this is also great timing.

Apparently Carl Sandberg wrote a poem about where I live, a crazy little city we call Kalamazoo. I've grown quite fond of Kalamazoo over the past few years. Here's Mr. Sandburg's poem The Sins of Kalamazoo:

To Any and All Beatles Fans

If you love, like, or even aren't sure about (which I'm not sure why you wouldn't be, but that's besides the point) The Beatles, see this post about the Beatles by JBev of JamsBio Magazine. I just found it for the first time thanks to @skinnermike who Twittered about it.

JBev takes all The Beatles' songs and ranks them along with a description on his opinions about them. Now, of course not everyone agrees with his rankings, but he backs up his opinions. It is a very interesting commentary along with some obviously great tunes.

Even if you don't really like or know much of The Beatles, this really breaks it down. There are plenty of songs that I still have not heard before so I'm pretty much going to be using this as my playlist for a good while. I feel the need, and really want to educate myself more on this highly influential band even though I already consider myself quite a Beatles fan.

I knew the military conducted tests on the effects of LSD by the back in the day, but I never quite pictured it to look or be like this. That said, this is exactly like what I would imagine LSD use to be like. I just never really put the two notions together. The moral I take from this story is don't give LSD to people with guns. I also find the video entertaining. It makes me giggle. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

Lily Allen covers Britney Spears? What? Yes, more news in the Lily Allen world. She's had a big week. Recently Lily covered Britney Spears' 'Womanizer', and I really, really like what she's done with the song. At first hearing of this, I questioned how it would be since 'Womanizer' seems so different from Lily's usual style despite the fact that I do love the song. Either that or I just never would have imagined it. Here's the song:

True Blood for the Twilight Fan?

I admit it, I am a huge fan of Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series, like I love Twilight. So I've recently heard about this HBO show True Blood and have wondered what the big deal was since from what I had heard, it sounds like a Twilight ripoff. I was skeptical but also very curious. This True Blood thing could actually be good.

Over the Thanksgiving long weekend, I went home to my mother's house to visit with family, eat some great food, be thankful, and of course catch up on all the TV I've been missing since she has way better channels and the best thing ever, On Demand. I love On Demand. When I realized that I had tons of extra time, I decided to give this True Blood business a chance. In one 3 or 4 day span, I managed to watch the first 10 episodes of season one of True Blood.

Ok at first I thought the show was a little ridiculous and over the top, but I stuck to watching it. I really wanted to see what all the hype was. I also couldn't help notice the similarities to Twilight. Both involve vampires trying to live in society on alternatives to human blood. Both have some "good" vampires and some "bad" vampires. Both center around a love story between a human and a vampire. BOTH have a character who can read minds. And both have shape shifter creatures (Sorry if you haven't gotten to that point in either series.) Hearing all of the likenesses made me originally want to hate True Blood for "copying" Twilight.

After actually giving the show a chance though I thought differently. I got over the outrageousness of the first few episodes and as much as I tried to deny it to myself, I was slightly addicted. I had to see the rest of the episodes right away. Despite the likenesses there are way more differences. The show is a completely different take on the vampire genre than the book series. It has a completely different feel. It's scarier, racier.

It might take a little bit to get into, but I would definitely suggest giving this show a try. I can't really describe why or how, but I really do like True Blood. It's become sort of a guilty pleasure that I cannot get enough of. The best way that I've come up to describe it is that True Blood is somewhat like Twilight for adults (even though I am an adult and am so in love with Twilight anyway).

I'm pretty sure I've found my favorite site on the internet, and it comes in the form of a streaming webcam showing 6 tiny puppies all day long. There is nothing I can do to really explain this other than it is possibly the cutest thing I've ever seen. Beware though, if you want a puppy, this will only make you want one more. Check it out because it will brighten your day and melt your heart.

I have a somewhat deeply rooted dislike for bars called O'Tooles, well maybe one in particular, cough Royal Oak cough. I also love a good fail picture. When my friend Nick showed me this picture from failblog.org, I could not help but grin from ear to ear. This may not be from the specific bar I dislike, but it's just too good. I mean come on now, how stupid can you be?

2008 Presidential Election Results in Map Form

The US presidential election has been probably the most talked about news story in for sure the past month, but probably longer than that. This past Tuesday, the American public chose Barack Obama to become the President-elect of the United States. Obama will take office in a few short months and become the 44th president.

Since then, the presidential election results have been quite the hot topic. I've come across a site from the University of Michigan that has created several maps and cartograms to depict the results. The cartograms that they have put up are especially helpful to see how the election results were spread out across the country. It is actually very interesting to see. Check it out here.

A Whole New World

Did you know they can make holograms of people?! No, I am not talking about those little pictures that sort of change when you move them. I am talking about how you can use cameras at cleverly placed angles and then send your life size image somewhere to look like you are actually there, well sort of. Nick just showed me this, and apparently it was on CNN last night, so I'm not sure how I missed it since I was watching CNN for much of the night during the election coverage. Here is an example from CNN last night.

It's kind of very cool, science fiction-y almost. I WANT one of my own! Well, I want to be able to send myself like that like in place of a webcam or something. It would almost be like getting to see my boyfriend with whom I am in a long distance relationship. Cool.

I love to travel probably more than any other thing ever. I especially love Paris, the culture, the people, the sights, the food, of course the wine, and the list goes on for days. I spent a great deal of time there this past summer visiting family and living it up with friends. Being there three times now, it kind of holds my heart, even though at times we have a love/hate relationship.

I came across an article from the New York Times today, and it only made me crave being back there. I especially enjoy the non-touristy aspects of the city, seeing how the real Parisians live. Check out the article and enjoy with me.

So I'm not usually very vocal about my political opinions. I mean I do make it known who I support, coughObamacough, but I'm just not very outspoken about it. I don't particularly like shoving my opinions in other people's faces. I fully respect other people's opinions whether they are on par with my own or opposing, well as long as people know what they are talking about.

That being said, I saw something this morning on CNN that just made me laugh. Headline: "McCain: We never quit." Hi that is hilarious because it is just false. I live in Michigan and about a month or so ago the McCain camp completely quit all campaigning here. He quit on Michigan. Hmm.

Bopping around to Mates of State

I'm a firm believer that when you find some truely amazing music, something you really love, then you should share it, especially if it is more of an indie band/musician. I think it is good to share your knowledge of what makes you so happy and gets you into it so much. Lately I've been very into Mates of State. I started listening to them quite a while back, but lately I've been looking into more of their stuff, and I just love it. You should check them out right meow.

I actually saw them play a show in Kalamazoo last weekend which was amazing since good bands rarely come here. They played at the State Theater, and I had never been there. That place is so beatiful and old and just all around great. It just felt very cool to be in there with the architecture and decor,quite grandiose.

The show was the Barking Tuna Fest that's put on by the WMU radio station WIDR with some other random bands. Weird name I know. Mates was the headliner and definitely the highlight.

I enjoyed them so much that night that the next morning I was going to try talk to my boyfriend into going to see their next show that night in Detroit since he lives near there. He was totally a good sport and said he would. So I drove two hours at the drop of a hat to go see one more show. Hey it was the weekend, and I love the spontaneity. I'm totally glad I did because it was another fun night of bopping around to one of my favorite bands live directly in front of my face.

All in all a good weekend, and I came away with 2 great concert-going experiences and a very cool new Mates t-shirt. It's purple.

I want to make something new that I've never made before. Upon looking at some recipes, I've discovered one that looks fab: Zucchini Galette with Heirloom Tomatoes, Asparagus, and Pesto. It was on this blog called Spatulas, Corkscrews, & Suitcases. Hm, sounds like a good blog for me. Anyway, it looks delicious and adventurous in the cooking realm. I think I'll try it this weekend.

Tattoo You

Today I went with my friend Emily to get her tattoo touched up. I'd never seen a tattoo done before so it was actually pretty interesting, just what I'd imagined and seen on T.V. It was just different in person though. Right there it got me to thinking about my own ink.

I've always been going back and forth on whether or not to get a tattoo. I've definitely always wanted one, but I guess I've never found anything that I thought would be good enough. Lately I've been thinking of getting of getting Picasso's Peace Dove(at right, photo courtesy of allposters.com) on my side, in the rib area. Sitting there, I realized that I think I really do want one and am almost positive I want that. I asked the guy who was fixing Emily about it, and he just made me feel more positive about it. So long story short, I think I will be getting a tattoo sometime soon. Yay!

Updating is HARD

Hehehe, ok it's not that hard, but I just get so busy sometimes that I forget. Then when I think about it, I think more and more about how I have to have this AMAZING post that sums up everything that has gone on since the last post. Well then it's a big ball of pressure. Or well, I might just have gotten lazy on this. So I've decided three things: 1. I really need to update now. 2. I'm going to start updating again regularly so everyone should start reading again. 3: Instead of trying to write some feat of amazingness, I am going to just have a slight stream of consciousness. Here goes.

-I just read a headline saying that one of the world's largest diamonds was found in Africa. Granted, I have yet to read the story, but it made me thing. I wonder how many people were killed for that one diamond? Scary.

-Ok I like The Hills. SUE ME. It is a good show, and it is entertainment. I think people that try to hate on it to me should just get off their high horses and stop acting holier than thou about my interests. More on this subject:
-I'm currently catching up on last week's episode since I wasn't "allowed" to be on the main tv at my apartment. Anyway, the band on right now, White Tie Affair, is really fun! I'm going to check them out.
-I don't think Justin Bobby is as bad as everyone makes him out to be. I mean, I would never date him, but he's not horrible. He does clean up well and looks good in doing so. He also gives very good advice to Audrina. EXCEPT it pisses me off when he ditches her or treats her like dirt. He would make a better friend for her than boyfriend.
-Team Audrina! Ok enough about my love for this show.

-I'm supposedly going on a diet that was to start today, but it hasn't been working so well so far. I didn't get a chance to go grocery shopping yet so all I have here is crap, and I had leftover pizza for dinner. I'll be better tomorrow.

-My bedroom gets so HOT at night! I'm not sure what it is but after like 9 p.m. for some reason the temperature just jumps and it's ridiculous.

-Since I last wrote, I took a month long trip through Europe. That was absolutely amazing. My roommate and BFF came with me for the first two weeks for Paris, Amsterdam, more Paris, and London. We were even in Paris for Bastille Day which was really exciting. Then when she went home, I went off to Marseilles and Porto Vecchio, Corsica for another week and a half. It was crazy travelling alone, but also amazing. It was something that I personally needed to do. I learned a lot from it.

-I tried to eat a salad with Ranch dressing earlier (before the pizza). That was weird in itself since I almost never eat Ranch dressing. Then as I took the first bite, I thought it tasted weird and looked at the date on the dressing. Apparently it expired in August of 2007. It was over a year old. Gross. I just hope I don't get sick.

-I really need to get on decorating my room. I finally have a hammer and more nails to hang things so I actually can get started. Now I just need to get Chad to loan me his drill that he promised to let me use over a month ago. I have a shelf that I really need to hang in my bathroom that will make it both look better and give me way more space. And space it definitely sparse in my bathroom.

-Went to Chicago a week ago for the weekend to visit friends of mine, Mike and Kyle. SO fun. We painted the town red. Really, we painted Boystown red. Hehe, I love when Mike takes me to Boystown and introduces me to all his men. I had a blast visiting them both. I had been missing them, and I got a much needed break from Kalamazoo.

-This makes me remember that I need to make a trip to the Detroit area soon to visit Erica and Matt who moved out there. That one will be a fun trip too. I'm super excited though because I will get to see them the weekend after next! They're coming back for a Kalamazoo visit!

-I'm not sure if I put in my hyperlinks correctly. I've got to get back on top of my game in this blogging thing.

The Castle

So there was this house...

Sometimes people come into your life and go right back out very quickly. This tends to happen to everyone I'd believe. This happens a lot when you hang out with people in high school and then move away. They are not forgotten however.

There was a group of people that I hung out with quite often, one being this guy Justin who lived in an unbelievably huge mansion that Regina and I endearingly referred to as "The Castle." We were there many many times as Justin liked to have people over since his house was basically amazing and his parents were NEVER home. I repeat never. I never once saw one of them. I suppose they could have been away in some other random part of the house, but I'm pretty sure they were just never there. Anyway, there were many fun times there hanging out, partying, sitting in the backyard overlooking the lake, causing trouble in the driveway, etc etc. Well, I haven't seen or really even much though about Justin in years now since we've both moved away.

On a completely different note, every once in a while lately I have been hearing about this corrupt plastic surgeon in Grand Rapids named Robert Stokes. I've never really payed any attention to it though. Just little blips in the news.

Fast forward to yesterday. I finally got to have a catch up phone call with Regina which has been way too long in the making. She tells me that she has a random bit of info. She was watching the news, and who does she see? Justin. Justin Stokes. He is talking to the reporter and walking through his house. Blast from the past.

So he is showing his house. Regina tuned in because FUN! Why not? So what is the reason he is on TV showing his house you might ask? Well... it's going to be auctioned off. WHAT?! Apparently, his father IS Robert Stokes, the shady plastic surgeon that keeps being in the news, and now he is going to prison for ten years for insurance fraud.

I had honestly never put two and two together to realize that this SuperCreep was Justin's dad. This is probably since I had never seen the guy in my life. This whole situation really kind of creeps me out though. I guess you never know about some people. I feel a little bad for Justin because he really had nothing to do with it, but he lives in Arizona now so I'm sure he'll be fine. It's just icky. I really feel like this guy should be going to prison for a lot longer though, and for something other than just insurance fraud. I mean he effed up God knows how many people's plastic surgeries AND spread diseases in the making.

My thoughts on this guy though are a whole other story. The main point is that "The Castle" is no more. Sadness. It will live on in memories though, hopefully ones not tainted with some SuperCreep. Even after auctioned though, it will always be "The Castle."

Hi. I had the best break ever. I needed it so bad. I needed time off work, and I got it. Now it's back to the grind. Thank God it's only a two day week this week because I couldn't handle jumping right back in to a full week with how things have been going lately. I think people at my workplace really need to step up and COMMUNICATE. I don't think some people realize that. Anway, rant rant rant I'm done with that.

Annnnd, things need to stop being weird and annoying. That is all I have to say about that.

Otherwise, break was pretty sweet. Got to see the fam and some great friends from home. I however am glad to be back in Kalamazoo and at my place. It's kind of sweet.

What I want is what I've not got, what I need is all around me.

there isn't one, the little things, just being around my friends on a few occasions stand out, realizing that i could once again smile, putting my guard down after a very long time, the times when i looked around and realized that everything was perfect in that moment, the times when i really appreciated life, some times that i probably won't remember, being with the people i love and see every day, being with the people i love and rarely ever get to see. those are all my favorites.

-a night spent lying in bed, talking for hours
-that night over the summer when it was just the crew all hanging out at steve's, watched the sun come up, helmets were involved
-that night when bridget, emily, and i went over to tim's really late and then we all went for a walk to the park and sat on the playground and by the river and talked about life and told ghost stories and got creeped out
-one night at my cottage around the 4th of July, rain
-murder mountain night with tim, kyle, bridget,& rob, etc.
-this one crazy night with steve and joe hanging out at their apts. (but i did not enjoy work the next morning)
-the whole sunday day/night in Austin at ACL & in town
-one of the nights up north with steve & alex
-nights spent in just chilling with friends talking, laughing, watching movies, just having an all around good time.
-all of these brightened my life this year

It's Thursday, and I'm not going to Roadhouse. Sadness. I feel like a fatass just sitting here watching TV. It's because I am dead tired. It's 9:30 and my eyes are clooooosing. Plus, I am enjoying watching some trashy celeb show on VH1. Sometimes I think it would be nice to be an heir to some great fortune like the people I'm watching now, minus all the rehab, drug problems, lack of privacy, annoying people around, rooms for just wrapping presents, and trashy VH1 shows made about you.

It's Eccentric Night at Bell's tomorrow. Are you ready? Whatever shall I wear?

Austin City Limits

Last week I had the pleasure of going to see the Austin City Limits Music Festival! Unfortunately since I drove down from Michigan (crazy, I know, but it wasn't bad at all), and I work during the week, I didn't get to see the Friday shows or Saturday afternoon shows. But I did get to see Saturday evening (by fluke I might add, and for FREE!) and all day Sunday. I went down with Steve and stayed with some close friends that live in Austin, Crystal, and Sean. They go every year so they showed Steve and I, the newbies, the way, in every aspect of enjoying the festival. They really showed us a great time so a big thank you to them.

Ok so of course Muse was the best. 1) I am in love with them, 2) They put on an AMAZING show, and 3) They just flat out rock. Everyone else was great too, except I did expect a little more from Ziggy Marley. I must admit too that unfortunately Bob Dylan was not very good, definitely not at the top of his game. He sounded like he was kind of struggling. Also, they wouldn't even show any closeups of him on the big screen. It was still cool to actually have a chance to see him play though.

Since the Decemberists were on at the same time as Ghostland, I had to pick the Decemberists and sadly had to miss Ghostland. It's totally alright though because the Decemberists were really fun. The other three saw Ghostland and said that they were so much fun. I believe it. They are a great band and if any of you haven't heard them before, you need to check them out. Now. Needless to say, I was sad to miss them.

The White Stripes were supposed to close Saturday night, but they had to cancel due to "Meg's anxiety issues"? They would have been really sweet to see, but all of Austin had to miss out. It's ok thought because that meant the Muse got the headlining spot to close the show. Still would've been cool to see both bands though.

Wild Bull. All before the craziness of moving set in...

I haven't updated in forever. Ok so last week got way too busy with packing and moving and seeing people before they move away. I'm finally all moved out of my apartment though and living on Ella and Kyle's couch for a few days. Fair warning though, I might not update again for a couple days because well see since I am technically homeless, I might not get much chance to use this thing called the internet. Hopefully though, Ella and Kyle don't get sick of me too quickly, hehee. I've included some pictures from the last week since I do have the camera back at least.

I lied because I did not get my camera back yesterday since I was being a piece of crap yesterday and didn't go to Roadhouse to watch Tim play, celebrate with Emily, or retrieve said camera. I suck, really bad. I did however meet up with Matt and Katie & their friends at Zazio's with Steve. Oh how I love their martinis, mmm. Fancy restaurants can be good things, even for poor kids like us, on half off night I guess. Afterwards we headed to the party at Larissa's and Lauren's because Larissa came back to town. This is where Roadhouse should have come in, but it didn't happen. I wasn't the one that chose, and I cannot go back. I must say though, that was a blast since their place was in stumbling distance of bed and they are always a good time. Jello shots galore too. Oh my. Bed was way too late, but oh so grand. Morning came quickly. I layed in bed reveling in the smiles for an extra hour and was, oh, an hour late for work. Oops, whatev. It was a wonderful morning as they can sometimes be. I did leave the night with a few souvenir pictures like you see above along with a few others though from that crappy camera phone .
